Greg Weaver has been working with us at Snowrev for a few years now. I can tell you that his experience and knowledge about cameras and filming has grown beyond that of a normal human being. He is one of those people that take his knowledge and expand it ten fold driven by passion and desire to make it happen. I feel that is a very important aspect in people and Greg is shining bright with his new oppurtunity. He will be the main filmer/ director of Mammoth Mountains new video. You can see his work in one of the coolest resort films I have seen, which is Mammoths latest video, Hot Laps. Greg sees this as the beginning and my guess is that next years video will be a banger. - John Centi
Should we do this?
Yeah
Ok, cool. Are you happy with how "Hot Laps" turned out?Yea, with all we had to deal with and over come. I think we did the best we could with what we had to work with
How did you get involved with filming for the movie?
It all started with a Movie me and Adam Lovejoy made last year callled "Chase the shot"
How many snowboard videos have you made before this one?
Well really only that one, so technically this is my second video

- "Hot Laps" closer Gabe Taylor knows Mammoth better than pretty much everybody
Would you say this was a big learning experience for you making a full length snowboarding flick with really good riders. For a movie a lot of people are going to see?
Oh yea for sure, I am constantly learning, and trying to progress. but yea I learned alot about so many different aspects from filming to snowmobilling to production to organizing crews and planning shoots.
Who was the best teacher out of the whole crew that really helped ut along the way?
Gabe Taylor was the creative director and He helped the most for sure. If was not for gabe there would not be a movie straight up! Or at least it wouldnt be as diverse terrain wise
What's it like getting music for the video. Is it a pain in the ass trying to get music rights or do the riders just get to pick whatever song they want?
Well we have to pay for all the music and becuase we are having so many copies distrubuted (100,000+) that it makes music very expensive so I had to go with smaller indy bands that were willing to work with us. we also had about the 1/4 the budget of most music budgets for snowboard flicks.

- Peter Benchetler and Clint Allen long day at the office
Do you feel that's why a lot of other videos out there have crappy music, but kids don't understand that you can't just pick the most epic song for the part sometimes?
Yea, I hope kids understand that and yea that is part of the reason but it still comes down to taste or personal preference.
Which genre you want to include. I tried to have something for everyone.
Ok, back the the shredding part? What was the most hairball shit you filmed last winter?
Damn! All I got to say is avalanches are not cool!
I think everybody would agree with you about that stuff. Where did you encounter those at?
In the backcountry, not in bounds of Mammoth Mountain at all

- Weaver is down for snowrev
Have you taken Avalanche classes to prepare and get more knowledge about the snow before you headed out there? Or just kinda wing it?
Actually I have my avalanche level 1 and 2 certification and I got them in Colorado which is notorious for having a terrible snow pack so it was good for learning. But one of the first things you learn is that snow is unpredictable and you need to be prepared for anything.
What else is hard about heading into the backcountry for filming some people might not know about?
The whole deal is alotta work first you gotta get up at like 4am (still dark and freezing) drive to the spot unload decide where to go, and then the hardest part buld something sick and land sick shit off it!! its no brain surgery or anything but yea its work. Time is always goin fast too so cant take all day to decide stuff
What am riders impressed you the most going out with to film?
The Dawoud brothers surprised me alot. especially because no body has really heard of them but they are up and comers for sure.

- Big ass booter in the Mammoth backcountry
Yeah, it's sick seeing all the kids that live here that so damn good at snowboarding. Is there talk of making another Mammoth movie this season yet?
Yea its for sure, no name yet though
You should call in "Motorboating in Mammoth Lakes" since a lot of that goes down
Hahaha
Who are the people you want to thank out there that halped make this movie happen?
Mammoth mountain, Oren Tanzer, Gabe Taylor, Adam lovejoy, Paul Grunke, Nate Shute, Jeremy Petit, Nimbus, all the riders, all my friends, Johnny Centi and SnowRev for sure!
Where can everyone pick up the video?
Free in the january (Superpark) issue of snowboarder magazine, on newstands Dec. 1st
So everybody make sure you pick up the new copy of Snowboarder Magazine for not only a free video, but a damn good one. Nice work Weaver and thanks.
No worries Joe thank you
