Not sure if Brandon Cocard, the winner of the weekend’s Brodown Showdown at Bear Mountain has a girlfriend or not but if he does not, ladies get on it, he is the next big deal. After a 3rd at the Triple Air, top 5 at the Dew Tour and 1st at Bear it seems as if Brandon is on his way. Brandon did not beat a bunch of slouches either; it was pleasantly surprising to see the talented group of rippers that showed up for the fun event. Tons of great riders showed up to enjoy the 65 degree weather, mushy snow and plethora of obstacles that Big Bear has to offer. The course set up had smaller features but was fun and had a lot to offer; the riders hit up to 4 different obstacles including a choice of rails, a hip, steps, jumps and a halfpipe. In order to get on the podium you were supposed to hit all the obstacles so say you completely killed the jumps (or vice-versa) but slacked in the rails, you would not win. The jumps were smallish but riders still managed to pull 900’s and someone even tried a 10. It looked super fun and really made you wanna snowboard. Brandon Cocard won buy getting tech on the rails or 270 on, doing a switch back seven over the jump, switch back 9 and killing it overall in the 45 minute final jam. Thanks to Bear Mt. Active and everyone else that helped with the event!
Harrison Gordon welcomes you to the Active Brodown Showdown at Bear Mt, CA
Here is a view from the top of the course. The right line included a down/flat/down bar into a small BMX style jump then a left hip and into the halfpipe. The middle line included a choice of two rail obstacles, into the big jump and into the pipe. The left line included the same two rails as the center line then into a few different rail features and a stair line then into the pipe. The riders seemed to favor the jump lines
