Immediately following our wedding, the new wife and I took a mini honeymoon up to an area called Mono Hot Springs. It had just about everything to offer; a river, good campground, hot springs, hiking, lakes, fishing and even a good restaurant and all in the middle of nowhere
Even though Mono Hot Springs is only 20 miles from Mammoth you get there through Fresno and going about 90 miles northeast. Here we are looking at the South Fork of the San Joaquin drainage
The last 20 miles of the road are pretty much one lane
The South Fork of the San Joaquin
There were meadows and little lakes everywhere
The area was not busy to begin with bur once you got more than a mile from the road there was no one to be found
This swimming hole was about 150 feet from our campsite and full of brown trout, there were also rainbows and goldens in the area
Looking up river at Bear Dome
There is a little resort with hot tubs and across the river from the campground there were about 6 natural style hot tubs of varying temps, all right near the campground
Another hot spring
This hot spring was just the right temp and next to the cold river
No fast food within 80 miles! Red wine, grilled corn, steaks and a concoction of potatoes, asparagus and bacon, oh and of course beer
Home for three nights, don’t worry the wife is getting a “real†honeymoon soon

Lake Thomas Edison is probably 12 or so miles by foot from Rock Creek, near Mammoth
