Shaun White just turned 23 this month and is pretty much on top of the world If anyone has seen the new issue of Transworld Snowboarding with not only Shaun White on the cover but a cool article by Joel Muzzey about Shauns secret training facility in Silverton Colorado…well if you have not seen it, lets just say Shaun is serious about half pipe snowboarding. Running around at over 10,000 feet in Colorado with a posse of assistants 10 deep a foam pit and the best pipe in the world, private or otherwise, it’s clear that a lot of people are betting on Shaun for Gold in Vancouver and he is taking snowboarding to another level. So, when we got the invite to see Shaun White on Fuel TV’s Daily Habit TV show, filmed at Oakley headquarters, well I jumped at it. Besides, as we are not USA Today, or Transworld, we likely will not get an invite to any secret half pipes so I was stoked to go see the Daily Habit show live. If you dont have Fuel, it is an action sports oriented TV station and the Daily Habit is their news show. When ever I watch the San Diego news they have stories like “if you want to get a parking spot in Pacific Beach on Labor Day, you better there early†so actually you could say the Daily Habit gives you more info than the local San Diego news. Anyway. If you would have told me years ago that in the future you could watch skateboarding and snowboarding on TV, all day I not only would have scoffed but would have been bummed to see the sports I love a sell out. Now, however, I love sitting down at 10pm and watching The Daily Habit, The Standard TV Show or maybe even a whole snowboard video like E-scramble for free, or I guess the $2 a month more that Cox cable charges for Fuel. Hey, the more exposure, the more corporate money means more free skate parks, more snowboard parks, so bring it on Fuel. Fuel TV brought the Daily Habit to Oakley Headquarters for “Oakley Week†and they invited various people in to watch the show get filmed, including some lucky members of the public. The show is no joke, they had at least 3 cameras and it felt like a real TV show with re-takes, cues for clapping and so forth, like when I went to see Coach one year. It was cool and a little weird at the same time but not weird in a bad way. Shaun was funny and well spoken, he has got this interview stuff down. Some of the stories he told off camera were better than the ones on camera. Like the one about the Japanese guys just pretty much wrecking themselves learning double corks or the story about buying Slash’s (from Guns and Roses) book and then seeing him on the plane and feeling like a dorky fan. He also enthusiastically talked about the upcoming Burton video and new video game release soon. When asked the all important question “who do you think will do well in the Olympics?†He replied that it was a tough question to answer and that after giving it a lot of thought he said there are many guys that can do well; Louie Vito, Kevin Pearce, Scotty Lago and more but the most important factor will probably be who is doing the best, health wise. I wonder if Shaun ever goes in to talk to his boss, Jake Burton and Jake is like “you better freakin win the Olympics or you are you fired!†– doubt it, but you gotta wonder

The show was taped at the Oakley headquarters in Orange County California, a pretty amazing building
Thanks to John Stouffer from Fuel and Tess from Oakley for letting us in
Fuel TV correspondent Jordan Morris warms up the crowd
The host of the Daily Habit Pat Parnell waits while a director type counts down. This was the first time Fuel TV had done the show at Oakley and this was the first day so there were a few minor mistakes. It was interesting to see the whole process
Shaun and Pat making TV “They made V for the Burton movie and we jumped over itâ€
