These are some of the funnest days at Bear Mountain, great weather, nice spring snow and minimal crowds. Get on up there before they close on April 12 This event sounded good on paper but then again so did Action Now and Warp magazine. Unfortunately in some cases, too much of everything means not enough of any one thing (including my life but that’s another story). This thing sounded super fun; some great snowboarding, surfing and snowboarding, that is right up my broh-brah alley. There were some stellar runs but it was kind of like being an airplane pilot which is a lot of boring time punctuated by short periods of action. Case in point, to see one Todd Richards run, it took about thirty minutes of waiting through some 30-40 years olds getting rad off a 20 foot kicker, heck, that is like watching myself. If only those staring kids in Africa knew what sacrifices us Americans make. Anyhow, The idea is to find out who the best all around three s (surf, snow, skate) athlete is with a contest in all three disciplines. There is an individual class, which the athletes compete in all three events and a team class. For the team class the athletes only compete in one event so for instance for team Hosoi, Bjorn Leines rides the snow, Tom Curren surfs and Christian Hosoi skates; that is a strong team. Last year Aaron Astorga won the individual overall. Aaron rips on a skate and Todd Richards got second last year. My money was on Todd last year because we know he kills it on a snowboard, he used to do 540's at the Boulder, CO YMCA and he is good at surfing but AA kills it all too and last year Todd got stuffed on waves. A little surprising at last year was east coaster Shayne Pospisil getting 4th; he must have hit some Jersey surf growing up to be such an all arounder. That was last year, this is this year and many of the same rippers are back. The snow course was dumbed down so to speak to allow the non-pro snowboarders to get down the hill; there was a small rail, followed by a 20 or 40 foot table top, followed by a left hand hip and an up rail, down rail and halfpipe. The conditions were warm and sunny  fun times. Yes it was insane to see some of the riders, yes it was cool to see the likes of Tosh Townend and Omar snowboard and any day on the snow is good but a Grandma and two kids were going down the hill next to the course and she said "do you want to watch the jumps" and they said no So if you want to check out the surf  this week in Ventura and there is a skate comp in Ventura as well if you want to check it. Heard Tom Curren was surfing, that would be great to see

Individual 1 Kurt Wastell 2 Shayne Pospisil 3 Chad Shetler Team 1 Bjorn Leines* 2 Greg Bokencamp 3 Tyler Flanagan Bjorn did a 1080 but I was arguing to get a media pass so I did not get a photo. I never did get a media pass either so basically I could not get any good photos that is why there is such a shortage of photos, guess they did not want me getting in the way of the other two photographers on the course and 10 people watching
