2007 Burton Abominable Snow Jam Halfpipe REPORT
Day two of the 4th Annual Burton Abominable Snow Jam took place at the HCSC halfpipe. The lighting was a little hazy and the temperature was a little too hot for a puffy jacket. The halfpipe was pretty damn good though, and for 44 snowboarders it was the only thing that mattered. There were two sessions, women and men. Both were pushing it and there was cash to be given to each gender. In total there was about $30,000 and two mac book computers to be won, and that should give you a taste as to how hungry the riders really were.
The women hit the pipe hard. Kelly Clark was blasting consistently out of the pipe and took the 5 thousand dollar check and the trophy for first place. Claire Bidez took second place and also blasted a front side 9 that was awarded best trick. Elena Hight stayed consistent and threw down some sick spins. Yuki Furihata won best trick yesterday in the quarterpipe and killed it in the halfpipe today.
Now the men, they were just blasting. Hucking while in control and blasting monster airs. Scotty Lago is simply amazing as he was doing sick backside nines around ten to fifteen feet out. His runs were sick and he landed in third place. Kevin Pearce was doing sick mctwist japan airs and busting them in the middle of great runs. He was awarded second place. Danny Kass, somebody should vote this kid for president. I mean he is an awesome snowboarder. His runs were explosive, with big spins, huge airs and effortless style. You guys know about Danny, he is the shit. Mason Aguirre was going huge, I mean peaking out on a mid spin 1080 around 15 feet above the deck, that is soo hard. Keir Dillon was doing about 15-20 foot alleyoop 720’s that were mind boggling. He won best trick for them. Kazu Kokubo was doing the biggest Mctwists, so big everytime. There was so much to mention, all of these riders killed it. Check out the photos for the visual effect.
This halfpipe event was expected to be one to remember. When you pack that much talent into one U tube on a summer glacier you have got to see it coming. What you most likely don’t see coming is the actual feeling of someone flying over your head at extreme speeds. I guess what I’m saying is, you have to see it to believe it. So, now I ask. Where are you going to be next summer?
