Shaun White wins the 1st annual Intelligent Design contest at Park City. This contest used to be known as the World Superpipe Championships. In an attempt to change things up Park City decided to have a contest with all the typical contest disciplines; jumps, rails, halfpipe and a qp. It’s always cool when people try new things and this event went off pretty well. Lot’s of fans showed up to check out the new event, whether they were psyched to see a new style of contest or just to see Park City team rider Shaun White, who knows? Riders were scored on overall impression so you kind of had to rip all three sections. Only 3 hits were scored from the pipe, they could hit as many walls as they liked but only three were scored, this was an attempt to keep the contest from becoming an all out pipe contest. Pretty much you could only hit 3 walls in the pipe before you had to cut out to get enough speed for the qp at the bottom.
The riders seemed to enjoy the course and so did the fans. The riding was good even if it was pretty much just Shaun White against everybody. The overall vibe of the event was pretty laid back although 10’s and stuff did go down. Shaun pretty much ran away with it, although Charles Reid came close. The trick list for the top 2 riders is in the photo captions so read on. There were eighteen riders in the prelims. Each rider got two runs; the top 9 went into the finals, where Shaun White was pre qualified straight into. The 10 finalist got three runs to basically beat Shaun White. Overall, the Intelligent Design was a good concept and good fun for all.

- Intelligent Design Park City Mountain Resort

- The halfpipe for this event was a huge icy pipe. It seemed like a few of the riders had a hard time holding an edge in there.

- Wyatt Caldwell kills all terrain, and he proved it in Park City by sliding into 5th place at the Intelligent Design

- Sebastien Toutant Nose Grab over the eyeball.

- Charles Reid frontside Seven over the jib.

- Jack Mitrani was riding well, pretty much he always does though. Jack came so close to making the finals

- Luke Mitrani Method Air

- Louie Vito, Tim Humphreys, Gjermund Braaten

- Louie Vito competing close to home, he won some money today

- Tim Humphreys

- Fourth Place finisher Gjermund Braaten on the qp

- Louie Vito Sending it.

- Charles Reid Frontside 1080

- Charles Reid Backside Rodeo | Angle One

- Angle Two | Charles Reid killed it. His second place run consisted of a front 10 on the first jump, a back rodeo 5 on the second jump, front 270 on the rail, backside air in the pipe to a front 10 in the pipe, to cab 7 and finished up with an alley oop backside rodeo on the qp. Shown here is the back rodeo 5 on the second jump

- Charles Reid did the highest front 10 in the event, it was gnarly and actually Charles got pretty close to Shaun trick wise. This back rodeo was pretty too

- Jack and Luke Mitrani are stoked they don’t have real jobs

- Luke Mitrani with his brother Jack doing a follow cam.

- Third place finisher Luke Mitrani with what was pretty much the trick of the day – switch double back flip in the pipe

- Nick Russell and a sick ass back 7 japan on the second jump

- Shaun White’s winning run consisted of a cab 9 on the first jump, front 7, front 270 on the rail, back 9 in the pipe, 7 in the pipe, cab 10 in the pipe and a alley oop backside rodeo

- Shaun White Snowboarding

- White rips and we had to throw another shot in there for all the Shaun White stalkers – alley oop backside

- Shaun White body jars the Amstel Light can I put out. A body jar is a backside air to tail smack

- Final Podium l-r, Charles Reid, Shaun White and Luke Mitrani
