The Aspen Open is a contest that won't be on the cover of your TV Guide, but snowboarding could use more events like this one. Two weeks after the X Games has rolled through Aspen, the course didn't just go to waste. A new batch of riders made their way to, where the beer flows like wine. Putting down runs that were nipping at the heels of the guys riding during the finals of the X. Without the massive crowds, security, television cameras, and all the other bullshit that comes with the made for TV events. It was just strait up, all the dudes throwing down the whole day on every single feature.
The weather in the morning was bluebird, but that changed pretty quick. The clouds rolled in and made the flat light another challenge for everyone, as if the kickers didn't come up quick enough already after a deep landing. Most of the riders made it look easy with smooth and technical moves on the top rail features. Then coming into the jumps there was a huge range of tricks from smooth 180's up to double corks. From the likes of Dylan Alito, Jeremy Thompson, Nick Julius, Ian Thorley, Sean Ryan, Jack Kyle, and more. Of course all the biggest moves going down on, as Sal calls it "The Money Booter."
Now this is only the start out of the weekend up here in Aspen. After a heavy slope final today going down. Tomorrow brings some heavy hitters like JJ Thomas, Dylan Bidez, Joe Eddy, and many showing up. So make sure you stay logged on snowrev to keep up with what's really going on up here this weekend in Aspen.
