High,
My name is Kelly Schovanek.
I am a photographer living this past year in victoria, bc.I was born a raised in canmore, ab, and spent a good part of my time in the mountains with fellows like jonas guinn, Andrew Hardingham and Jonaven Moore. I got sponsored at age 16 by coach mike estes at summer camp at mt hood, oregon. For the next 8 years i had a great time travelling to many places and meeting fine people all over. after having 2 really shitty spleen ruptures, one in boston at the final snojam contest in 2002, and one in fernie at a big air comp, I started thinking about a plan B. In 2005-06 I enrolled myself in a professional photography course in victoria. I spent the whole year shooting photos, selling weed to my classmates and surfing the westcoast. it was great. The following winter I spent in my van, and toured from alberta to bc shooting my friends shredding. it was a really good winter. since then i have redirected my focus towards street/photojournalistic photography. I still love snowboarding plenty, but i have realised there are things in this world that need to be documented more than snow shredding. one thing I would like to add regarding our industry. I think its important for the kids growing up in our sport to take a where it heading.Tthis world is in for some mighty changes in the next decade we need to change certain bad habits that we as an industry have adopted, and change them. I encourage every snowboarder out there to read Jonaven Moores interview in SBC a few issues ago. He has smart things to say, and is one of the best at shredding out there. Start thinking about snowboarding in the bigger context of it all. With that said, here are some photos I have taken in the last few years. If anyone around Alberta or BC needs a photographer that aint afraid to get into some gnarly shit, dont hesitate to call. www.schovanekphotography.com
