This time of the year you might be finding yourself at a pumpkin patch. Maybe trying to figure out your kit for Halloween. Then there is news of an early storm and a cool breeze rolling into Mammoth. Which means it was time to get there right away for the first dose of winter. As the storm came in, it left a blanket of snow on the mountain to start running lifts for the second earliest opening in the mountain's history. Then to put the icing on the cake, Mammoth hit everybody where they didn't see it coming. Anyone that could make it there on October 16 received a free lift ticket. Great idea on Mammoth's part, since I'm pretty sure most of the people that we're of age made up for it at the bars, and the rest of town. I would say most of it went right to the bars though. Way to boost that economy.
The trip started out in San Diego where we piled everyone in the RV including Jack Mitrani, Nick Russell, Elliott Levit and our buddy Tyler. Making it into Mammoth just in time to make it for last call at the bar after a long drive. We then headed up to the main lodge to sleep right next to the lift. Where the next day we would meet up with the rest of our crew. Greg Bokenkamp, Nate Farrell, Danny Davis, Luke Mitrani, CBass and a bunch of others made the drive down from Tahoe.
Of course the weekend wasn't only snowboarding. We all decided to go camping with the whole crew. So after getting a good amount of inventory for a solid night of partying ahead we got the festivities rolling. Then we decided to run wild in the streets each night, with most of us taking a walk through the entire town of Mammoth to try and end up back at the campspot. Great way to start out the season.
