The seventh consecutive Mammoth West Coast Invitational (WCI) took place today Friday May 2. The party in the pipe or fiesta de la pipe had a serious line up of heavy hitter pros and up and coming poachers all competing to get a piece of the $20,000 pie.
The Mammoth park staff cut a perfect 16 foot pipe and set up a huge variety of obstacles on the deck. The pipe was laid out like this looking down at it:

The pro rider line up included:
Luke Mitrani, Chas Guldemond, Cody Rosenthal, Danny Kass, Nate Farrell, Mason Aguirre, Louie Vito, Kyle Clancy, Greg Bretz, JP Walker, J.J. Thomas, Joe Sexton, Giom Morriset, Trevor Jacob, Tommy Czeshin, Sammy Luebke, Shayne Pospisil, Torstein Horgmo, Chris Grenier, Scotty Arnold, Darrell Mathes, Mercedes Nicoll, Molly Aguirre, Jamie Anderson and Elena Hight.
The poacher line up included:
Pat Bridges, John Centi, Sketchy D, Tyler Flanagan, Joe Carter, Mac Spedale, Eric Jackson, Scott Blum and plenty more incognito shredders.
The
jibs were in place by 11:00 am. Just in time to open the pipe to all
the riders, media heads and spectators. The pipe jam session began at
11:00 and lasted until 2pm. Jam sessions are always the shit because
the existence of pressure disappears and it allows for snowboarders to
attempt tricks they normally wouldn’t try.
As soon as the action began the FRENDS crew, Mason Aguirre, Luke Mitrani and Jack Mitrani started killing it while FRENDOWN Danny Davis was filming them. These kids love snowboarding, kill it and are some of the funniest guys ever. Luke Mitrani won best trick with a switch double back flip. Mason Aguirre placed 2nd and won $1000 cash. Luke Wynen took home $500 for breaking the piñata. Chas Guldemond returned from a second place finish last year and shredded his way into first this year. Chas walked away from the pipe today with $5,000. On the ladies end of the spectrum it was Jaime Anderson that took the top honors.
Some additional highlights included: Cody Rosenthal busting some smooth ally oop tricks, they were so sick. Scott Blum’s double fisting and his 50-50 to backside 180 on the lift tower tube. Chris Grenier’s frontside invert on the tombstone barrel jib. Louie Vito’s handplant on the cat-lifted jib tube was insane. Greg Bretz was slaying the halfpipe and attempted a front nine over the 2nd piñata. JP Walker was shredding but unfortunately was taken out early due to a fall on his shoulder.

Best Trick- Luke Mitrani $1,500
Broke the Pinata- Luke Wynen $500
The entire event was filled with great shred and all around good vibes. Big shout outs to the entire Mammoth Crew: Laura, Heather, Chris, Oren, Mark and everyone else that put and held this together. Sponsors include Red Bull, Future Magazine, Vans, Dragon and Quiksilver.

- Louie Vito has been on a planting rage... He killed the Boned Age eye ball at Grenade Games Day two. Today he did the same on the cat tube extension...
