That’s a top priority in the mind of a snowboarder.  As winter lovers; the snowboard community blossoms at the first sign of a falling sky.  In Western New York the first snowfall usually occurs in late October to early November and by December the shred season is in full bore.  Snowboarders are out jibbing city rails, riding resorts, and the local backhills.   One thing we need to realize is that global warming is having a dramatic affect on this lifestyle.  The warm air is restricting our snowflakes to fall and the result in WNY is rain.  Although you always find something awesome to do in the rain (mudsliding, jetskiing hela fast) riders would much rather wake up to the white world.

Today was the first annual Save The Snow Rail Jam.  The purpose of this event was to raise awareness about the effects of global warming.  The snowboard community is directly affected by the warming of the earth and I think the kids felt the effects today.  The riders all made the most out of what was rideable but due to global warming they were restricted to ride one single patch of snow.  If that doesn’t get the message in to the rider’s heads that global warming is affecting us, what will?

Now is the time for snowboarders to take action against a natural phenomenon that is greatly affecting the riding conditions and length of season.  Do your part NOW so your kids can shred long and epic days on the hill for years to come.  Scientists tell us that we must stabilize the concentration of carbon dioxide pollution in the earths atmosphere at 450 parts per million in order to avoid catastrophic effects of global warming.  To reach this target, America needs to cut its CO2 pollution by 80% by 2050, which is a 2% reduction per year if we start NOW.

Ten things YOU riders can do to reduce global warming.
1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
2. Use Less Heat and Air Conditioning
3. Change a Light Bulb
4. Drive Less and Drive Smart
5. Buy Energy-Efficient Products
6. Use Less Hot Water
7. Use the "Off" Switch
8. Plant a Tree
9. Get a Report Card from Your Utility Company
10. Encourage Others to Conserve

Even as you read this you can take action immediately by redirecting your attention to the Crew Blog where I have posted a few links for Global Warming Petitions.

Check out the action from everyone that showed up to become more AWARE.
