Living in Southern California has the perk of having some good riding at several local resorts. Mountain High does a good job, not only by being open from November to April despite the fact that it's practically in the desert but they have good terrain and maybe most importantly, a good park. You never really realize how good So Cal parks are until you go to other states and ride some crappy ones. The park game in So Cal is pretty competitive and the features don't just get there magically. The crews work all summer while you are at the beach. We went up to Mountain High and talked to Director of Marketing, John McColly and Faultline Terrain Park Manager, Justin Montoya to see what they have been working on this summer. So damn the recession and keep going. Anyone who went to Mountain High last year knows that their early season park was on point and stayed good all year -Twenty five new manmade features. Three new signature features; one for Cory Cronk and one each for new Mountain High team riders Marc Franc Montoya and Louie Vito. There will be at least 15 completely new features and 10 or more new features recycled from old features. -Chisholm, one of the main trails at Mountain High West is getting widened in a few key spots. This will allow the park crew to run 2 lines of features down the run; one jump line and one rail line instead the one line of jump traditionally on Chisholm -More basic beginner features that can be set up as advanced features too. An example could be a fun box that when set up flat, works as a beginner feature but if you set up like a jump taking off and landing on the flat box it becomes an advanced feature -More snowmaking capacity. That's a no brainer, more snow is better -More natural features in The Gulch. The Gulch is a little natural halfpipe type deal near the bottom and they just started putting features in it last season. It's a cool little zone and especially useful at the bottom of the hill to take traffic away from the other two primary runs at the bottom -They are getting 4 new Bison X park machines, trading up from some older style grooming machines. This means they can spend more time grooming the park and working on jumps -Speaking of jumps, according to Justin Montoya, a lot of their park crew consists of veterans this year which means more experience, more ideas for new jumps and better jumps overall

Here are some of the new top sheets. You probably never think too much about top sheets but they are changing too and this year Mountain High will have all top sheets made from Lexan and backed with metal img_1556

more new features waiting to be finished img_1557

Just think only 3 months or so till you may be pulling up to this view in the parking lot img_1558 Mountain High West, were the majority of park riding is done img_1560 Mountain High West, more family oriented but still a bunch of obstacles img_1564 Mountain High North looking down on the desert, home of the tubing lanes and some beginner and intermediate runs
