Transworld's 8th Annual Rider's Awards Report
White Doubles Up at Riders Awards
Yessirre, Shaun White took two awards at Transworld's 8th Annual Rider's Awards last night. After that, Mack Dawg premiered one of its movies. The whole shindig was pretty much a raging success. Things went down at On Broadway in downtown San Diego. For snowboarding it was a formal affair, a collared shirt was required to get in. The place was set up really dope, they did a fine job. Because I am lazy I am going to talk about who was not there because that is a much shorter list. Terje was not there although he was at the E-scramble premier last week, Hannah Teter and Pat Moore were in South America, David Benedek was not there, nor was Mason Aguirre. Other than that, name a snowboarder and they were probably there. As Ed put it so well "if someone put a bomb in here, the snowboard industry would have a hard time on Monday" Even Josh Feliciano showed, thought he was in jail. The party was pretty mellow and fun. When we left around 11:30 the drunks were starting to show their faces, mostly in a good way; making out on couches, getting a little rowdy but nothing too nuts.
Right after the awards was the Mack Dawg premier. Wait, we gotta straighten this out. This was not actually the Mack Dawg premier. This movie is called People and it was made by Pierre Minhondo (formerly of Neoproto) and Justin Eeles (formerly of Kids Know Productions). Those two fellas were taken in by Mack Dawg and they made their own movie under his name. Kind of like CVS buying Sav On drugs. The actual Mack Dawg premier is tonight at Spreckles theatre and is free for everyone. Back to People, this movie may very well be the artiest movie to come out this season. It had a heavy metal soundtrack coupled with an 80's tight pants kinda feel. The riding was primarily urban style with some sick rails and gap to rails going down. There were a few crazy lines through rocks too. Who was in it? Stephen Duke, Etienne Gilbert, Nima Jalali, Pat McCarthy, Jordan Mendenhall, Robbie Sell, Curtis Woodman, Bryan Fox, Justin Hebbel, Jon Kooley, Shaun McKay, Josh Mills, Marius Otterstad, Jussi Tarvianen, and Ryan Thompson. Arty, urban, rails and tight pants sums it up. A good flick overall.
Congrats to all the winners, fuck it, congrats to any of the snowboarders that make a living from snowboarding!
