Explain the programs you use?
I use Photoshop and Illustrator (Adobe) and those are the fundamentals, and I’ve been using them since I graduated college in 2002. I went to the Advertising Arts College in San Diego and I got a Bachelor degree in Digital Arts. That sparked my interest in art and I started to explore the graphic programs more artistically rather than just for work. But I still make websites and that’s my main source of income.
Did you start with painting or computer design?
I started with graphic design, but that inspired me to get back to the basics. I was dabbling around on the computer creating digital art, and I have always wanted to try painting traditionally. So I bought a canvas at the Mammoth art store and that was the first season that I lived here. I consider myself an All Media Artist since I my work branches into many areas. People have noticed that I have numbered all my paintings, most of the time subliminally.
So, every painting you will ever do will have a number in it?
I’m thinking so, I have so far. I’m thinking that might be my little thing that separates me as an artist.
So explain the name Genic.*
Yeah Genic, The definition is; Of, relating to, produced by, or being genes or a gene. Hard consonants have a cool sound to them. We are all created of genes, so it’s the most basic sense of who I am.
In school my first major was Advertising Arts. I was just disgusted by the manipulating of people by using different colors, presentation, and typography to get them to respond to something, so I switched gears and switched my major to Digital Arts. I then got into website design as a way to make money.

I see that women, music, and politics have a lot of influence on your work, explain how they influence you?
Well these are all things that inspire me, whether its a love intrest, a song that makes you feel a certain way or an asshole of a politicianthat lies cheats and steals and thinks its ok. I feel that if I see something that affects me ethier possitively or negatively, and that if its significant that I need to never forget it. Music has started to take up my time more and more; I guess you could say I’m a producer. I make melodic beats (that often have a dark quality to them), but mostly hip-hop. I think it all blends together for me at least. One thing that I really want to get across with my artwork is awareness, to ones self and environment. Nowadays I think there are too many of our peers that don’t really know what is going on around them. If you’re going to live n this world you have got to know what’s up, or people are going to make decisions for you. Politics especially, as an artist its our responsibility to reflect what’s going on around us.

What does art mean too you?
Art is a basis for history, its a reference for and of time. Its what people look at to understand what is going on during any given time period in history. Its one of mans oldest skills, and its what seperates us from animals, our creativness to see and manipulate our environment in different ways. Art to me means my sanity.
