Stop #11 Of Volcom's North American Peanut Butter And Rail Jam Tour
Lake Louise, Canada - The 12th stop on the 2006/07 North American Peanut Butter and Rail Jam tour went down Sat March 24th at Lake Louise Resort. Early Friday morning we (Danny Koriath, Leroy Seymour and Liam Ellicott) packed up the truck and set out to “The Lake”. This was our fourth year visiting the resort and we were stoked to say the least. Wanting to start the trip out on the right foot, we stopped at Tim Hortons for a round of breakfast sandwiches and hit the road. After leaving, we realized we had no way to hook up our Ipod. Everyone who has ever embarked on a road trip knows quality audio inspiration is essential. However, we had no luck finding an adapter and by Salmon Arm our fart jokes and road games were getting old, which instigated pit stop numero deux. Back on the road, we attempted to make use of our new equipment and found that pressing the “auxiliary” button on the stereo gave us “Sirius” satellite radio! We quickly found the comedy station and stuck with it for the rest of the drive. Apparently I passed out as some point because I woke up some time later to Leroy’s excited voice. Looking outside to see what the commotion was about, I was amazed to see a set of pillars that seemed to disappear into the clouds! They are bridging a gap across a treacherous portion of kicking horse drive. The massive columns appeared to be 400 feet high! The construction in the sky was causing landslides on the road below! We could see boulders plummeting towards us as we sped through! Thanking our lucky stars, we finally arrived in Lake Louise. We met up with the resort’s Rebeckah Hornung to catch up and witness her melodious voice. Upon arriving at the hill we found the three custom PBRJ features set up and ready to go. Departed was Michael Corner and his over-qualified team of part technicians. However the new crew held it down like the pro’s they are.
The 15 and under heat got underway around 10am. The kids came out blazing, dumping their bags of tricks all over the features. Ben Blundell couldn’t have been more than 4ft 2 and was one of the best rail shredders I’ve seen in a long time, front board 270 out on rails taller than him! These little rippers were killing it.
Wasting no time the 16 and over riders attacked the rails in full force. An onslaught of trickery was underway. Moves MC Hammer would be dazzled by. As in past years, Layne Treeter would show us how you need to ride to win the PBRJ. John Graff and Scot Brown were two riders that had some serious talent which I could only dream of possessing!
After the 16 and over heat wrapped up it was time for the PB and J madness. Every PBRJ I’m at I get blown away by the creativity of the kids put into the sandwiches. Nasty! But hey, 20 bucks to the most heinous PB and J creation is apparently worth it.
It was great to have rep rider Jess Kimura holding things down on the mic, but soon was time for her and the rest of the femme shreds to get going with their heat! These girls were on a mission! Reminding us how far girls riding has come, Kendra Scurfield, Lauren Hyde and Gillian Andrewshenko were throwing down for all in attendance. All in all, the girls absolutely slayed it!
OPEN! We’re always stoked to see what the heavy hitters of Lake Louise are going to bring to the table. And bring it they did! One of our favorites, Kevin Griffin who has been killing the PBRJ event at “the lake” was back in full force. Tim Nelson, always a showstopper was destroying the scene once again. All the open division riders showed us what Lake Louise will do for your skills!
Thanks to Jenn Dykstra, Rebeckah Hornung and the Lake Louise park crew for their support and hard work. Thanks also to Mineki Yamada, Michael Corner and the Rude Boys crew for being large and in charge once again. Thanks to Dirk Yarmush, Stacy Smith for being jack of all trades. Our best wishes go out to Dom Pelosi. Hope to see you back on your board next year! Last but not least, thanks to Celtek Gloves and Red Bull for supporting with product.
