07/08 Burton AM Tour: Zolotaya Dolina Results
Russian premiere in the golden valley
After three unfortunate cancellations caused by a lack of snow we finally continued the Burton AM Tour on Saturday. However, this event was on a knife edge for a while as well, since the Russian custom officers kept us in suspense for 13 hours before we finally were allowed to enter the country…but this is another story.
For the very first time a stop of the Burton AM Tour took place in Russia. Zolotaya Dolina, the “golden valley” a one hour drive from the metropolis Saint Petersburg, was host for this event. The experienced German shape crew Unit Parktechnologies, was busy with the set-up for almost a whole week and presented at the end a first class snowpark. Perfect matching kickers and a nice selection of boxes were waiting to be rocked by the over 50 russian riders. Those were visibly amazed by the slopestyle course and almost couldn`t stop riding.
The nine hours flight that Alexey Sobolev had to incur to arrive from Novosibirsk in Siberia to attend the competition was definitely payed off. The 16-year-old Burton rider let all his competitors in the Junior Boys category behind him convincing with rotations like a switch backside 720 nosegrab. Evenly convincing was the performance of the winner of the Junior Girls. Elena Alekhina (19) from Moscow sticked stylish backside 360´s and 180´s. Two Kids from Saint Petersburg dominated the younger categories. Whereas Valeriy Kazarskiy (15) had to establish himself against his combatants with tricks like a frontside 360 nosegrab, 12-year-old Maria Yakushkina had a walk-over being the only girl under 14 years.
In the Finnish resort Talma, not far from the capital Helsinki, the next stop of the Burton AM Tour will take place next weekend.

About Burton AM Tour
The third edition of the Burton AM Tour consists of 19 events in 15 different European countries. Kids between 8 and 20 years can compete for great material prizes and guaranteed starting slots at the Burton European Open - Europes biggest snowboard competition. On top the Main Sponsor Suzuki provides two Quad Bikes for both Junior Tour Champions. The Burton AM Tour is part of the TTR (Ticket to Ride) World Snowboard Tour. Therewith at every event useful points for the TTR Ranking can be won.
