Local Young Gun Mikkel Bang Claims Hemsedal Nordic Open Park Attack

Hemsedal, Norway - In front of a home crowd, Mikkel Bang (NOR) wins his first TTR title of the season at TTR THREE(3)STAR Slopestyle contest Hemsedal Nordic Open Park Attack, 30th March-1st April, 07.

Held at the Hemsedal event arena, one of Europe’s major-league snowparks, the Hemsedal Nordic Open Park Attack 07 gathered together some of the biggest names from Norway’s talent pool. The enormous park set-up, built with 20 obstacles including a 120m halfpipe, several rails & kickers and two massive quarterpipes, heavily challenged Saturday’s male and female riders in a 2-run, best-run-counts qualification day. Perfect Nordic Spring conditions prevailed through to Sunday, as the contest moved from the park up to the Hemsedal hills to the huge 24m kicker to hip setup for the 8-man Battle Format knockout Finals. Each rider competed in the head-to-head format, attempting to out-ride his nearest rival on the specially constructed Big Air jump and corner.

In an all-Norwegian Final, it was young gun Mikkel Bang (NOR) who beat his opponents, impressing the judges most by clearing a stylish Cab 900 from the Big Air into a backside 360 Indy on the corner. His 7th TTR result of the season, Bang (NOR) adds 550 TTR Ranking Points to his overall score and moves up from World Nr 21 to the impressive TTR World Nr 18 spot. Bang (NOR) is currently Norway’s second highest rider in the TTR Ranking List presented by Swatch.

2nd place went to Norwegian Champion 2007 Kim Andre Eliassen (NOR), whose winning run consisted of a clean 1080 over the Big Air into a neatly executed stalefish over the corner. Mats Hofsgaard (NOR) took 3rd place. In the girls’ contest, Norway also claimed all podium finishes based on the qualification results from the snowpark. Signi Heen (NOR), Mira Nordin (NOR) & Martine Grufstedt (NOR) claimed 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Also notable was 6th place finisher Kim Rune Hansen (NOR); his 14th TTR result, Rune Hansen (NOR) has accumulated the highest number of TTR results by any one rider this season.

Event organizer, Joakim Aaronsen, stated: ‘Hemsedal’s event arena, perfectly shaped by Lars Eriksen and his crew, provided everything needed for the riders to put on a great show, especially in the finals. I am really happy that we completed our first Norwegian TTR THREE(3)STAR event and hope we can host more TTR World Snowboard Tour events in Norway and Hemsedal in the future.’

Post-crowning the TTR Tour Champions, the calendar continues through to the end of April 2007. All TTR contests attended until then will provide riders with TTR Ranking Points for the 06/07 TTR Ranking List presented by Swatch to add to their overall ranking score until May 01st, 2007.
