2007 Red Bull Drive By
Spain - For the third time, 6 pro snowboarders go on a road trip from Bilbao to Lisbon in search for sick urban snowboard spots - from the 10th to the 23rd of November the Red Bull drive by crew will be roaming through Spain and Portugal to indulge in a massive shooting. There are still some blanks on the maps of some parts of this continent to mark undiscovered virgin spots that have never been snowboarded nor photographed before. So this year the crew will explore Spanish and Portuguese cities in which it hardly ever snows and which have for sure never seen urban snowboard jibbing.
Black limos with dark windows in which a handful of snowboard pros - Alex Cantin (CAN), Kareem El Rafie (SWE), Marc Swoboda (AUT), Nico Droz (FR), Hans Ahlund (SWE), Max Legend (CAN) with temporarily support from Benni Wetscher (AUT)- are going to get ready for the next drive by shooting. The mission is clear: scout the most unusual virgin urban locations and jib and rip them the best you can. In 2005, the city of Prague saw the kick-off of the tour, and Amsterdam was the last stop. In between the crew went to conquer the urban kingdoms of Austria, Switzerland and Germany. 2006 it took them from Austrians capitol Vienna to a lot of eastern European countries like Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania and finally to Serbia.
This year however, the GPS will guide them westwards. Kicking off all the way north in the Basque city of Bilbao, the tour will lead them to the beautiful San Sebastian, which is for sure more famous for surfing than snowboarding and then to the Spanish capitol Madrid. Searching, scouting and road tripping the crew will hit the historical town of Ávila as the last stop in Spain. Final destination of 2007’s drive by tour will be the capitol of Portugal, Lisbon.
Thanks to an integrated cooling system in a van the road trip is independent of the prevailing conditions at each spot. Whether the sun is shining or it is raining– the van is always filled with enough white stuff to prepare in-run and landing zone.
