2007 Grenade Games 420: DAY 1
Event info from Andrew
4/21/2007
Party, Snowboard, Party is the best way to put the 2007 Grenade Games into three short words. We arrived on 4/19 into the Seattle Tacoma International airport just in time to loose ourselves in the city of Seattle and make it to the introduction dinner. The Fox Sports bar didn’t play to good of a host for this crowd. Dave Schift’s first words were “THIS PLACE IS FANCY”. The tone in his voice led you to feel his anticipation of hearing broken bottles and sirens by the end of the night. As the party went on the Boost Mobile bar tab expired and the Grenade General began throwing food at the bar’s big screen televisions. It simply gave you a feel of what to expect from the Games. Havoc, fun, and HEAVY METAL. It was one hell of a time. The first night ended with a run in with the police, a bunch of skating in downtown Seattle, and a bunch of drunken snowboarders.
The first day on hill started off with an early drive up to The Summit At Snoqualmie from Seattle. It is so green up here, and I here it rains a lot but we hit it on a super sunny day. We pulled right off exit 52 off of Interstate 90, and instantly saw the Summit at Snoqualmie. We could see the set up and what looked like some gnarly terrain. We found out the gnarly on hill obstacles were part of a Mack Dawg/ DC shoot and were closed off to us but don’t get me wrong the terrain built for the Games was pretty sick. There were multiple natural and man made jibs all the way down to the halfpipe on the riders right. On the riders left was the slopetyle/ jib setup which included a stair set down rail, down box and down flat down rail into a triple jump line of sizes 15-20-25 roughly. The halfpipe event was sick, a bunch of kids were going big and throwing down. Tweakin Like Matty, Hounds of Hell, and Retard Riot all played throughout the day and rocked the pipe jam. Danny was killing it, along with Brian Regis, Rob Kingwill, and Shaun Durst did a back lip on the couch jib. The pipe jam went off and we are not really sure if they had a contest in it or not, but the jam had good vibes and everyone was just flowing. A couple of the riders were having a session on the jumps throughout the day. The setup was definitely super fun because you could ride through the pipe and cut over in time to hit the last kicker in the jump line.
The party was wild, and it was kind of like a party throughout the mountain throughout the entire day. When 420 hit the entire resort went “UP IN SMOKE”. Everyone was just about posted up for the mogul run/ snowball firing squad. There was no official name for this event, and unfortunately for the people who decided to give it a shot, it had a huge turnout. About 200 kids lined the mogul field as fearless Soldiers Of The Frozen Battle field charged down it on a snowboard with no bindings. Complete mayhem. You will have to watch the video for complete details but the deal was, the riders had to go down and after going through the mogul field/firing squad, grab the board and run back to the top. People were getting blasted. It seriously looked like a frozen war zone with frozen Grenade flying everywhere.
After that event was over the entire crowd headed down to the dunk Matt, Danny and The Dingo in the front of the lodge. That was pretty funny too, the dunk machine was kind of broke, and the water looked super cold, but everyone enjoyed the entertainment. Shortly after this the cops rolled the joint and a female state trooper took down one of the party goers but I am still unclear why. It was pretty funny though because the snowboarder started running, the female cop ran after him, and the male cops just walked. We got it on film.
All in all, there is a big crew of Grenade riders are here, and everyone is super stoked to be in Washington. Looking forward to day two of the Grenade Games. Big ups to Matt, Danny, Grenade Boost Mobile, Summit at Snoqualmie, Lib Technologies, One Ball Jay for making a dope event take place up in Washington.
