Volcom PB&J Championships | Saturday April  26th 2008, Mammoth Mountain, California
The Peanut Butter and Rail Jam is Volcom’s amateur snowboard contest series.  Today was the series championships held at Mammoth Mountain and had a turn out of over 200 riders.  With the combination of the originality of Volcoms marketing heads and the expertise of the Mammoth mountain park staff you know this was an entertaining show and a sick event for all the kids.  This contest continues to push the bar higher and higher for amateur snowboarding.  Shredders qualify from international locations throughout the season to come together for the Peanut Butter Rail Jam Finals held at Mammoth.  This is a high energy event that consists of twenty minutes heats for each division and is filled with non stop action all day.

Today nightmare on elm street that came to life in Mammoths Main Park.  The riders were pulled from their beds throughout the world and placed on the Mammoth rail playground.  More like a dream come true if you ask me. The weather was perfect for shredding, the music from the Drat Pack was bumping, the riders were riding and the Freddi Krugers were judging.  The judges were Volcom brand manager Billy Anderson, Ryan Boyes Volcom team manager and guest judges Zac Marben and Elena Hight.  If any one knows what to look for, its these guys.  There were four divisions of riders throughout the day: 15 and under which had 56 riders, 16 and Over with 55 riders, Girls with 42 riders and Pro-am Open with 61 riders.  With over 200 of the worlds best amateur jibbers you can only expect the bar to get raised.

The 15 and under division set it off and proved to be some of the most progressive riders in the world.  The hard thing to imagine about these kids is that THEY ARE UNDER 15!  This just proves that you can no longer match snowboard ability with age, these kids crushed that theory.  Sawyer Dean coming in from Waterville Valley New hampshire took the top honor of the day and $3500 bucks.  Collin Wilson from Copper Mountain Colorado placed second and takes home $2750 cash.  Corey Schneider from Summit at Snoqualmie took third place and $2000 cash.  In fourth place it was Caleb Home from Brighton Utah that is taking home $750 cash.  Fifth place went to Canadian Alex Sarrazin from Mont Avila and he won $500 cash.

The 16 and over division podium was dominated by the European crew that rolled in.  Annsi Paatero flew in from Europe to come win the international Volcom contest and $3500.  Wes Walsh from the United States resort Waterville Valley took second place and $2750 cash.  Mark Swoboda also coming in from Europe took third place and $2000 cash.  Sam King from Keystone Colorado took fifth place and $500 cash.

Mike Brokoff from Big Bear won the Electric Best Trick contest and was awarded $1000 by Kreepy Kyle.

The girls also had special guest judge pro Volcom rider Elena Hight.  She knows what to look for in the difficulty and execution of these tricks so you know it was a fair game.  In the end it was Big Bears Laurie Currier that took first place and $3000 cash.  Iris Lazzareschi coming in from North Lake Tahoe California rolled down with her brother Johnny Lazz and placed second overall and won $2000.   In third place it was European Kari Opsal Maeland that won $1500.  In fifth place was Tammie Varner taking home $500 cash.

The Open division seriously went off.  These jibbers are seriously on another level and will smoothly throw every trick every which way.  Johnny Lazz from North Lake Tahoe won the respect and the cash $5250 to be exact.  To no ones surprise Mammoths own Tyler Flanagan took second place and $3250 bones, Tyler killed it all day, he did every trick so smooth.
Julien Beaulieu returned for another year of winning at the Peanut Butter Rail Jam and took fourth place and $1500 bucks.  Fifth place goes to rider Ben Blocq and he takes home $1000 cash.
