Day two of the 4th annual Vans cup held at Northstar at Tahoe the weather turned out perfect with sunny skies and good conditions for some very talented meat chucking from some of the best in the biz. Qualifiers took place in the morning to set up a 15 person final for the men and 10 girls. The format was best run out of two and with the heavy lineup of riders in finals the amount of carcass tossing on the triple jump line was insane.
For the women Chanelle Sladics grabbed third, followed up by Kjersti Buaas taking the second place with a solid frontside 720 of the first jump into a very stylish front 360 stalefish. Cheryl Maas spun down the whole course enough times to go home with the win and best trick with a big backside seven on the bottom booter.
As for the men things got really intense for the final round with a stacked field of riders, good weather and two runs to slay it for the heavy lump of 20g for first. Last nights rail Jam winner Chas Guldemond threw down sick runs with solid rail tricks, a backside rodeo and switch front 9 to back 9 on the jump line. Nate Sheehan was popping hard off lips with consistent runs making his pockets fatter at the end of the day. Heikki Sorsa killed with amazing style holding his grabs the whole time on his 900’s on all three of the jumps grabbing 4th place. For the 3rd place spot it was Australia’s Robbie Walker chucking down the run with a front nine, to switch backside 9, into a frontside 1080 on the last kicker. Not only taking second place but also best trick for his perfect front ten indy Mason Aguirre might have had the best style all day. He made the extra effort to poked the shit out of every grab and stomp every jump perfect. When the day came to a close it was last years raining champ Andreas Wiig taking the title again. With some of the most powerful riding from Andreas he spun his way down with a switch backside 900, to a front side 1080, followed up by his absolutely insane backside rodeo 900 and a 50-50 on the wall ride to finish things up sealing the deal for first.
Well that’s two days down and one to go from 2008 Vans Cups at Tahoe. Stay tuned the wrap up on Super Pipe Tomorrow.
