2009 Burton Scrap Metal
United Kingdom - Friday the 13th might be unlucky for some but not if you are anywhere near The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead this November. The Burton Scrap Metal returns for it’s third year running and will be dumping an array of junk for the UK’s indoor riders to get nasty on.
Previous years' competitions have featured one of the biggest gas pipes ever seen in the UK, a Rover Metro jacked up on its end and even a skip incorporated into the course! This year will be no different with plans afoot for one of the most creative slopestyle set up’s ever built in country.
This year’s comp will be a jam format with the top placed riders going into a 2 run final at the end of the night. As usual there will be top swag up for grabs from all the sponsors, spot giveaways as well as cash, that’s right CASH PRIZES!!!
The aim of the Burton Scrap Metal is to encourage creative snowboarding by putting the riders in front of obstacles that are not your common-or-garden jibs and rails. Taking inspiration from parks like Bear Mtn and Park City over in the States (not to mention Channel 4’s Scrapheap Challenge!) we can expect to see some cutting edge features made out of cars, gas pipes, fridges and whatever else catches the shapers’ eyes down at the local junkyard.
The competition itself is a slopestyle format, with a jam session to qualify and two-run final at each of the venues to sort out the winners.
