2009 U.S. Revolution Tour Registration Opening Soon

Park City, UT - Up and coming snowboarders from around the globe are set to stomp, speed and grind in the 2009 U.S. Snowboarding Revolution Tour. Registration opens up to pre-qualified riders Oct. 6-19 and the general public on Oct. 22. Over 150 athletes have pre qualified for the tour, which will feature halfpipe, snowboardcross and slopestyle events at four stops across the nation.

In its fifth season of progressing riders to the next level of competition, the Revolution Tour will return to Copper Mountain, CO and Mt. Hood Meadows, OR, and will feature two new stops at Boreal, CA and Sugarloaf, ME.

"We are really looking forward to another awesome season on the Revolution Tour with great venues and progressive riding. Copper and Mt. Hood Meadows always put on an outstanding event and it's exiting to finally bring the event to Tahoe and Maine with stops at Boreal and Sugarloaf," U.S. Snowboarding Program Manager Abbi Nyberg said. "The Rev Tour athletes are the top juniors in the world and the future of the sport. It will be incredible to watch them compete this season!"

The Revolution Tour serves as one of the main qualifications for riders to advance to the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix - the nation's premiere snowboarding series now in its 13th season. In addition, the Revolution Tour is also a qualifier for the Burton US Open, FIS Junior World Snowboarding Championships, USASA Open Class Nationals and the U.S. Snowboarding Cup. This season, $28,000 in prize money is on the line as well as an invitation for the top male and female riders to join U.S. Snowboarding's Project Gold Team, a benchmark for aspiring athletes who spend a week training with U.S. Snowboarding pros at their annual summer camp.

"The Revolution Tour is a great stepping stone for athletes transitioning from grassroots events to the elite level. It's the perfect event tour to fine tune skills and advance to the next level," Nyberg said. "Each year we watch athletes excel at the Revolution Tour and advance up the U.S. Snowboarding pipeline."

The tour also will partner with the Ticket To Ride World Snowboard Tour (TTR) as a three-star event for which the winners of each Revolution Tour event will receive 400 points towards the overall TTR title.

Riders 13 years old and up can register to compete in halfpipe and slopestyle, and must be 15 or older to compete in snowboardcross. Registration for pre qualified riders begins Oct. 6 at 9 am PT and the general public registration begins Oct. 22 at 9 am PT. All registration is online at ussa.org.
