Girdwood, AK – Alyeska Resort will close public access to Mt. Alyeska from the top of Chair 1 to the base of the mountain for the Summer of 2007 due to major snowmaking and trail improvements.
Closing access to foot traffic on the mountain is vital to ensuring the safety of the public. These closures are essential for planned multi-million dollar upgrade to the mountain including snowmaking, Magic Carpet installations, trail improvements, reconstruction and maintenance.
We know many residents and visitors enjoy taking day hikes on the mountain and that closures present an inconvenience but, Alyeska Resort is confident that local residents and Resort patrons will appreciate the long term benefits.
Access to the mountain from the Tram to the Glacier and the Mighty Mite trail will remain available for hikers, climbers and sightseers. The recent expansion of the Winter Creek trail will also provide hikers with an alternative summer activity. Ascending Path will continue to offer a variety of hikes, climbs and expeditions.
Please watch for signs that will indicate which area of the mountain will be open and closed throughout the summer.
