BRIGHTON BUNCH 2009 RECAP
Season 1: Brighton Bunch Episode 1  Brighton Bunch Episode 2  Brighton Bunch Episode 2.5  Brighton Bunch Episode 3

Hola and Welcome to the first installment of The Brighton Bunch.  Incase you have no idea Brighton is one of Utah’s gems nestled all the way up in Big Cotton Wood canyon, just outside of Salt Lake City.  Brighton has a pretty heavy history and list of riders, photographers, filmers who have floated through the mountain riding and documenting since the early nineties.  If you haven’t already, I highly suggest you check out photographer Rob Mathis photo book “Slide”.  There you will find a slew of great photos from the early days at Brighton dating back to 1993ish.  This place has been the training and stomping grounds for many in years past and still is for many pro’s today.  The uncrowded slopes, amount of snow and easily accessible natural terrain makes it one the best spots to shred in Utah.

With constant storms and a very unstable snow pack through December it was a little hard for us to get back to some of the great areas that Brighton offers and for us to shoot.  Once Milly opened and the holidays brought some solid storms we got started and met up with a few crews.
You can find all sorts of people riding at Brighton, from up and coming rail riders lapping through the park to established riders know every inch of the mountain and all it has to offer throughout the years. We have had some already epic days lapping Marys, a few hikes off Pioneer and top to bottom park laps.  As everything is starting to stabilize and all those land sharks are getting filled in we can’t wait to get things really rolling on episode two.  Until then stay tuned!

- Welcome to Brighton

- Our favorite area of the mountain - Milly Bowl

- Mac making a nice first turn somewhere in the middle of the photo above.

- Sometimes you gotta earn your turns. Any hike here is very rewarding.

- The crew station early season a top pioneer ridge.  Great view of Tuscarora, 3 chute and Wolverine in the background.

- Utah blower at its finest.

- JP Tomich launching a frontside popper

- Misty mellow days cruising the mountain are the best.

- Josh Jarvis afternoon chute.  As you can see there are a few land sharks lurking and there is still quite a bit of filling in to do.

- Mac tail popper

- Everybody was hating on this idea until Kyle shoved this huge method in their faces.  Unfortunalty after two tries Kyle slammed into a bump in the landing and got a knee to the face resulting in a concusion and facial fractures. He is healing up and will be back on in no time.

- Just a random nice photo to look at.

- Filmers gotta get their turns too. I think Dark Mangler choose to film a top angle so he could take this line.

- Russell Nick with some old school inspired pipe action.  Brighton got a Zaugg this years but its still on its way over from Europe.  Once that guy shows up this pipe will be prime.

- Are you Beeping? Brighton has some of the best and easily accessible out of bounds hiking right off the lifts.  Make sure you know before you go.

- This is whats happens when you don't know before you go.  Two teenagers thought this area looked sick to shred.  They walked right past the gates above, hiked the ridge and dropped together on his open face and this is what happened. Straight ripped to the dirt
8-12ft deep, 100-150 ft wide, 1500ft long and one of the kids was buried
. No beacons, shovels, probes or knowledge..... They are both extremely lucky to be alive.

- Mac Spedale had no doubt and laid it out.

- This photo would have been way cooler if Joe Carter didn't fall right after this.

- You Can't go wrong with
hot laps on Crest.

- First tracks down Mary's is well worth getting up early and packing the trails out.

- Mac mid small double dropper line.

- Nick Russell tripod tre bomb

- Kurt Wastell scoping the possibilities.

- Target acquired... Solid Method.

- followed by a lil frontside snow pusher

- This thing was pretty sketchy.  Russell getting loose with a little help from his new banana.

- This is a pretty fun cliff to get first.  Mac having a great time sending it.

Until the next episode.....
