Burton Team Report 05-09-07
Jeff Curtes Direct from Greenland
My final trip of the season was no doubt the most special. An eco adventure trip to East Greenland with Terje Haakonsen, Nicolas Müller, Mads Jonsson and Kevin Pearce. We gathered in Reykjavik, Iceland a week ago, with the absence only of Kevin Pearce who encountered travel snags along the way causing him to be a few days behind schedule. We traveled to the southeastern Greenland town of Kulusuk and there, we boarded a helicopter flight to the nearby island of Tasiilaq, which is only accessible by heli or boat.
The goal of our trip was quite simple: to explore and enjoy one of the most unspoiled places on earth and to achieve our snowboarding goals of riding and shooting with the simplest means possible. After a three night camping trip in the gorgeous backcountry, aided only by five, 11-dog dogsleds, everyone was quite stunned by the overwhelming beauty of this place. The weather has been perfect and the harmony of the crew outstanding. Look for a major Transworld feature in the near future.
Keep it clean,
Jeff Curtes
Heikki, Jussi and Jeremy Finish Up Filming with MDP
Heikki, Jussi and Jeremy were in Oregon over the past week finishing up their parts for Mack Dawg’s new film, “Picture This”. Burton photographer, Chris Owen, also met up with the crew and snapped some stills of the action. The crew headed up to Mt. Hood Meadows where Heikki got a sick half Cab wall ride to backside 180 out and a couple of 720’s on the world famous “elevator shaft” kicker. The crew also put the finishing touches on their intros for Picture This. If you haven’t seen the trailer for the new flick, be sure to check it out at here.
Burton European Rider, Stephan Maurer, Getting Every Last Bit
The 2007 season is coming to a close in central Europe and riders are gathering on the glaciers to shred the last bits of slushy snow and ride what’s left of the dwindling parks. Burton European rider, Stephan Maurer, won’t stop until the last bit of white has melted. After finishing up his last photo shoot of the season, Stephan headed back to his home resort in Switzerland to ride what was left of the park. The snow cat even rolled in to demolish the park features, but Stephan kept things going and locked down a sick one-footed frontside boardslide to cap off his season.
