Double Chair Sale Benefits Environmental Fund at Steamboat
Christie II, Headwall & Preview Double Chairs Included in Second Sale Initiative
Steamboat Springs, Co - The Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation will use chairs from the Christie II, Headwall and Preview double chairlifts to generate funds for the Ski Corp. Employee Environmental Fund at the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.
"These lifts served the public admirably for decades and each one has a lot of nostalgic value built up throughout the community,” said Chris Diamond, president & chief operating officer for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. "After the success of the Burgess Creek sale and the continued demand for chairs, we didn’t hesitate in committing to this project again, knowing the dollars raised would leave a lasting environmental legacy.”
Through the partnership with the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, the resort will make available a total of 175 chairs from the Christie II, Headwall and Preview lift. Each chair will be offered to the public for a minimum donation of $250. Each chair comes with a certificate of authenticity from the resort.
Individuals wishing to obtain a chair must contact the Steamboat Ski Area Switchboard, 970-879-6111, starting at 9:00am on Monday, August 13th. Chairs are limited to one per person on a first-come basis in their "as is” condition. Individuals will not be able to request a specific chair (for example Chair #87) or particular lift, but will be assigned the next chair off the stack. No reservations will be accepted before August 13th. Chairs will then be available for pick up in the Meadows Parking Lot on Friday, August 17th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm. Cash or checks are accepted, checks should be payable to the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.
The removal of these chairlifts makes way for the new Christie Peak Express, a Leitner-Poma of America, high-speed, six-passenger chairlift, part of more than $16 million in on-mountain improvements this winter. As a part of the resort’s long-standing commitment to the environment, the resort will utilize alternative energy to power the Christie Peak Express. This will be the third lift powered by alternative energy at the resort.
Since its inaugural year in 2004, the Ski Corp. Employee Environmental Fund has granted $138,373 to 33 projects representing a variety of nonprofit organizations across the Yampa Valley. The Yampa Valley Community Foundation, which recently obtained the nation’s highest philanthropic standard through the U.S. Community Foundations, manages over 100 funds from scholarships to legacy endowments and has awarded $3.4 million in grants and built an endowment for the Yampa Valley, including future gifts, of more than $10 million.
