When it’s 40 degrees outside, it is minus two inside. Ski Dubai is the first indoor ski resort and snow school in West Asia, aiming to send a team to the Winter Olympics!
The Ski Dubai Snow School was started in December and inspired by an indoor snow centre in Japan visited by Majid Al Futtaim, owner of Mall of the Emirates and Ski Dubai, 11 years ago. Ski Dubai was designed for amateurs, accomplished skiers and snowboarders alike.
The head of Ski Dubai, Phil Taylor, says the snow school is run on the lines of the best in the world. The manager is a French ski instructor and all 26 of the instructors and slope patrollers are qualified according to their country of origin and given extensive training in Dubai by recognised, international coaches.
Ski Dubai is working with internationally recognised ski federations, such as the Ecole de Ski de France (ESF), which are coming in June with four French instructors to offer special lessons. Ski Dubai holds regular, club-level races and is working on major events.
Its passports use skill-based ability levels just as snow schools elsewhere to allow other ski schools to readily understand the ability level a student has achieved.
