Final Countdown to Season Opening at Treble Cone
Treble Cone all set to open
Wanaka, New Zealand - Treble Cone announced that the ski area will open the Home Basin next Tuesday 26 June for the winter season as scheduled.
“It’s a beautiful winter wonderland up here at Treble Cone” says Area Manager Jackie Van der Voort. “Snowfall over the past 48 hours has been very timely and just what everyone’s been waiting for”.
The ski area was now 100% confident of opening next Tuesday 26 June after the current storm pattern. 15cm of fresh wind affected natural snowfall was recorded yesterday afternoon and another 10-15cm had already accumulated on the mountain today. This has added to good man made snow on Home Basin main trails.
With the present forecast, the Volkswagen 6 Seater Express Chairlift, Nice n Easy Platter & Magic Carpet beginner facilities will open, providing access to some groomed trails on the Home Basin. The café, rental shop, snow sports school & childcare and retail store will also open.
Opening day will be celebrated with Daniel Le Brun bubbles at midday along with Lucky Legs Trio jazz band entertaining the crowd.
With more fresh snowfall forecasted, along with good snow making conditions, the ski area will open more facilities and ski trails as snow conditions allow.
With consistent cold temperatures over the past 3 weeks, 26 snow guns have been operating in ideal snow making conditions. Snow makers had been working around the clock and at full capacity most evenings, creating a snow base, now topped up by natural snowfall.
Ms Van der Voort said that 180 staff had been recruited after overwhelming interest from over 1000 applicants. Staff have been through extensive training this week, and are all very excited about opening and greeting guests in celebratory fashion next week.
The Access Road will remain closed until the ski area opens next Tuesday.
