High Cascade Snowboard Camp: Snow Park NZ
Lake Wanaka, New Zealand - Springtime slushies, killer goggle tans and authorized awesomeness is what went down at High Cascade’s very first snowboard camp down under. From the 27th September tho the 4th October, campers shredded Snowparks legendary park features in a fun and positive environment that nurtured their snowboarding potential. Campers from Australia, USA, Brazil, Germany and New Zealand stayed on hill at Snowpark in accommodation that overlooked the park. So everybody went to sleep with snowboarding on the brain.
The first day of camp greeted campers with a fresh layer of snow blanketing Snowpark and the mini ramp set up on the Woolsheds deck. Riders were assigned into coaching groups based on there riding ability, and had professional snowboarders as coaches. High Cascade coaches included, Charles Beckinsale (AUS), Anthony Leffelaar (NZ), Bevan Hall (NZ), John Engersol (USA), Dave Reynolds (USA), Nick Brown (NZ) and Sharon White (NZ).
During on hill coaching sessions campers were filmed by their coach and then critiqued during video analysis clinics at the end of the day. This proved a vital visual tool in the rapid progression of the campers riding, and also caught some epic stacks for the session recap DVD.
The fun continued off-hill with post shredding activities keeping the laughs and the fun rolling well in to the evening. Skating the mini ramp at sunset was a great way to wind down and provided great viewing for everyone inside the woolshed. Epic games of Snodgeball (snow + dodge ball) were played, Xbox 360’s delivered some gnarly thumb blisters, tramp skating, snowboard tuning/set up/construction clinics, hot tubs, art sessions, paintball, and mini golf kept all entertained. A couple of brave campers even threw themselves off a bridge at AJ Hackett Bungy!
The only program of its type in Australasia, High Cascade provided a fun progressive environment that had campers who had never snowboarded a day in their lives, confidently jibbing features that any seasoned rider would have found challenging. Everybody left High Cascade with new friends, a new bag of tricks, loads of hook up goodies and lots of great memories.
