Ex-professional snowboarder, sidelined by injury, Josh Clark has taken up a new challenge as Youth Action Sports Co-ordinator stationed at The Remarkables in Queenstown.
Born and bred in Queenstown, 22-year-old Josh has been snowboarding since he was 14 and is excited to have a new role in the sport he loves.
Ski areas sales and marketing manager David Ovendale said the Youth Action Sports Coordinator position was established last year in response to the success of youth focused programmes at The Remarkables and Coronet Peak.
“We are working at the front end of the freestyle market and are committed to lifting an already strong youth focus at The Remarkables to the very top level while providing excellent events and freestyle fun at Coronet Peak. Josh’s passion for freestyle and his solid credibility within the industry and youth market will prove invaluable to our organisation.”
Josh has plenty of experience in freestyle competition and is known for outstanding performances that won him 1st place in both the Cadbury Moro Slopestyle Series and Parklife Invitational Street Jam in 2003. He has been a member of The Parklife Rider Team since it launched 3 years ago.
A recurring shoulder injury has prevented further competition but his involvement in the freestyle industry has continued through several stints as MC at national freestyle events.
In his new role Josh will liaise between park users, designers and groomers as well as driving events in the park and pipe, maintaining a web presence at
parklifenz.com, youth action media co-ordination, management of the Parklife Rider Team and the development of youth focused marketing material.
“The main areas of focus for me will be to support the progression of up-and-coming youth by developing the freestyle culture at both The Remarkables and Coronet Peak” said Clark. “And in the process, remind freestylers that The Remarks and Coronet Peak offer wicked riding choices”.
Now in its 6th year, the Up & Go Terrain Park has doubled in size since its inception and for 2006 there will be increased focus on the Fruju Beginner Park ensuring progression is fun, safe and satisfying. New Snowmaking into the Sugar Bowl for 2006 runs adjacent to the terrain parks and into the Superpipe meaning better facilities earlier in the season.
