Westendorf. Tirol Austria 9 – 11 March – Austria’s Michi Stanschitz took out the 8th edition of the TTR 3(three) Star event, the Ästhetiker Shred Down last weekend. Stanschitz, after forging his way into the finals by placing third in the events open qualification, stepped-up to take the title from an international field of top classed riders. His performance gained him 550TTR Championship points and direct invitation to this seasons last TTR 4(four) Star event The Ästhetiker Wängle Tangle being held in a fortnight.
The event was [blessed] by record snowfalls providing an ideal base for the construction of the now legendary x-large terrain Boarders Playground snow-park. With a double kicker line consisting of an 18 meter table dropping to the courses next feature christened affectionately ‘Big Mama,’ [28 meter table] followed by three rail options into a four meter wall ride, riders were confronted with a plethora of options.
And as blessings sometimes go, ongoing snow flurries played havoc on the riders, impairing sight and limiting speed, forcing competition and course options to be modified to suit both the qualification and finals. Dynamic modifications to an event format is supported by the TTR and applied effectively by event organizers to ensure the competitive performance and safety of the riders is met in full. With 35 qualifiers cut to 15 for Saturday Semi Finals the stand-outs were becoming visible and included Heppu Pentti(FIN), Andreas ‘Mone’ Monsberger(AUT), Michi Stanschiz(AUT), Werner Stock(AUT), Reni Reiser (AUT), impressively young 15yr-old Simon Pircher(AUT) who went on to win the rookie award, Max Weikl(AUT), Herby Thaler(AUT) and TTR World Snowboard Tour Nr#12 Chris Kroell(AUT) who showed the crowd why he is ranked so high by throwing down the biggest jump witnessed during the weekend.
In packed auditorium in the centre of Westendorf, to the delight of the crowd a completely elated Michi Stanschitz was crowned the winner of the Ästhetiker Shred Down 06 walking away 1,000 Euro’s richer and 550 TTR Championships points stronger. The win earned Stanschitz a direct invitation to the TTR 4(four) Star event the Ästhetiker Wängle Tängle in two weeks.
