Australia - Mt Buller has opened more terrain just one week after the resort commenced lift operations for the 2006 snow season. The resort officially opened for skiing and boarding on Monday June 12 with the Blue Bullet 1 Chairlift.
With consistent cold conditions this week and extensive snowmaking, Mt Buller now has 6 lifts open. These include; Cattleman’s Carpet, located on Bourke Street, Blue Bullet 1, Blue Bullet 2, the Summit Chairlift, Koflers T-bar and Recovery Rope Tow. The Kofler’s T-bar and Recovery Rope Tow allows skiers and boarders access to the intermediate terrain in the Summit area. Grooming has also commenced on the Summit Ridge and Bourke Street, giving skiers and boarders better riding conditions.
Fine conditions are forecast to continue until Tuesday, and Buller Ski Lifts’ general manager, Laurie Blampied, said it was a great start to the 2006 season with school holidays starting today.
“We’ll be reviewing lift operations daily and opening more lifts and terrain as soon as we can. Snowmaking is in full swing on Little Buller Spur and given favourable conditions, we hope to be able to open it for skiing and boarding next week,” he said.
Lift tickets are currently AU$44 for adults and AU$24 for children, including all secondary students up to Yr 12, until such time as all the Ski Guarantee lifts are operating. The Mt Buller Ski & Snowboard School will also be offering two-hour adult beginner Discover lessons on Bourke Street for AU$44.
To increase our free rider’s on-snow experience this school holidays, Mt Buller has opened the MBP (Mt Buller Park). With more rails than any other ski resort in Australia the MBP, located on the skier’s right of Bourke Street, gives Mt Buller guests more variety in terrain. Featured in the park is a 3m flat box, 6m flat box, 6m flat rail and a 3m up flat rail.
It’s been a big year at Mt Buller with the resort’s completion of the Village Centre Development, including a new all year round Foodworks supermarket, undercover ticket hall, high-end retail outlet Altitude, and Wok Works Noodle store. Other developments include the extension of the Buller Kids’ Centre, housed in the Mt Buller Ski and Snowboard School, which is now licensed to care for 175 children and includes a crèche facility for children aged three months to three years.
Ripping up the first MBP rails!
