Mt Hutt Celebrates 10 years of Peak to Pub
Methven, New Zealand - Mt Hutt and Methven are gearing up for the 10th annual Peak to Pub race to take place on Saturday (4 October). Top multisporters and enthusiastic amateurs will line up against each other in the unique adventure packed race which takes competitors from the summit of Mt Hutt to the Blue Pub in Methven.
Mt Hutt Race Coordinator Richard Murphy said the race was an extreme and varied adventure that, while not for the faint hearted, was heaps of fun.
“It’s an action-packed day that will leave competitiors talking about it for years to come. Many participate for the fun and excitement while others use the race as a stepping stone towards other multisport events around the country,” he said.
“We have been very lucky to have some great names such as Steve Gurney and Mark Ypelaar compete year after year setting a very high standard. This year we’re expecting a strong line up of competitors including last year’s winner Luke Hoetjes and the winner of the 2006 women’s event, Madeline Martin. Local multisport brothers Braden and Glen Currie will go head to head along with Big Al’s Richie Owen. One thing’s for sure, all will enjoy a great sense of achievement when they cross the finish line outside the pub.”
The Peak to Pub begins with a 100m dash to strap on skis or snowboards high on the slopes then blasting down the fastest line to the base lodge followed by an eye popping 18km mountain bike dash down the well known Mt Hutt access road before an 11km run finishing outside the Blue Pub in Methven.
Competitors can enter as an individual or complete one or more legs as part of a team.
Contestants can register for the event at nzski.com prior to a compulsory race briefing at Mt Hutt base building at 1pm on race day. Prizes on offer include 2 x 2009 season passes for Mt Hutt and sponsor products. Entry costs $55 per individual and $110 per team of three.
An awards presentation and party will be held at the Blue Pub after the race with lots of great spot prizes to be won.
Sponsors of the Peak to Pub race include Big Al’s Snowsports Methven, Columbia, Sunto and HEAD.
