PEC POD SNEZKOU, CZECH REPUBLIC – Austria’s Ruedi Köell wins his first ever TTR event in Eastern Europe, the 3(three) Star Nokia Snowjam 2006 presented by professional snowboarder Martin Cernik in conjunction with Free Magazine, Quiksilver and DC went down in the history books as the finest performing most hospitable tour events this season.
The major Czech ski resort Pec pod Snezkou, host to last weekend’s first ever ‘eastern’ TTR event successfully administered the biggest snowboard competition ever to take place in a Post Communist country. Being a highlight of a fast growing and already established Czech snowboarding community, the accumulation of world class riders competing alongside the growing stable of top Czech, Slovak and Polish freestylers revealed the immense talent that still lies untapped and under-exposed
The slopestyle formatted event kicked off with open qualifications. 45 riders were cut to top 11 who went head to head against the nine pre-selected invitational pros the following day. The semi-finals, a 1,5hr-long jam session again rattled out the top performers, identifying the top five finalists from two ten-man heats.
With the Czech crew by no means coming short in entertainment, the party program post qualifications and pre finals was nothing short of mind-blowing. The famous hip-hop artists “Vec&Jazzy,” followed by a live concert by “Wohnout,” a Czech rock and skate band, were additional reasons for the events success and strong crowds. The 3000 strong crowd exploded to a show of high level of action by the top ten nigh-finalists and closing quick-fire rider sessions.
With three of the top ten results going to Czech riders, the event served its purpose of establishing itself on the TTR Championships tour and bringing to the East vital exposure and a closer partnership with the rest of the global tour series alongside setting standards for entertainment and hospitality!
