Pond Skimming Contest at Mt. Hood Meadows
* 100 “Skimmers” will compete for a trip for 2 to Hawaii on Sunday
* Surf music and Hawaiian BBQ will set the tone for weekend event
Mt. Hood, OR – Mt. Hood Meadows will turn Polynesian this weekend (April 28-29) during Hawaiian Days, presented by Kona Brewing and All About Hawaii Travel.
The weekend is highlighted by the first annual Sno-Kona Pond Skimming competition on Sunday, when 100 “skimmers” will attempt to cross a water pond on skies or a snowboard in pursuit of bragging rights and prizes. First place in the 21 and older division is a trip to two to Hawaii, including air fare and lodging. First place in the 18 – 20 year old division is a season pass to Mt. Hood Meadows for next season. In addition to making it across the pond, competitors will also be judged on costume and style. The contest is limited to 100 skimmers who can preregister online for just $10. Competitors must be 18 or older to participate. There’s no charge to watch the event, which will be presented right in the base area.
The Retroactive Gamma Ray band will perform Saturday and Sunday, serving up surf music. And a Hawaiian BBQ featuring Ahi Tuna Sandwich, Hawaiin Style Pork Back Ribs, Teriyaki Chicken Halves and Shrimp Skewers will be served both days on the Sun Deck.
In addition to the Pond Skim on Sunday, a dunking booth staffed by Mt. Hood Meadows management team members will be presented. Meadows President and C.O.O. Dave Riley will take a turn in the dunking tank. Proceeds go to benefit Columbia Riverkeepers.
