Powder perfection brings happy holidays to Mt Hutt
Methven, New Zealand - Families heading to Mt Hutt for the school holidays this week have been blessed with new snow, pristine powder, and the promise of more to come.
The high country ski area received 50cm (19.6 inches) in the last 48 hrs, 74cm (29 inches) in the last week and is enjoying a good base of 150cm (59 inches). More snow is in the forecast for the next couple of days.
Dave Wilson, Ski Area Manager, said the ski area had enjoyed a dream start to the season which was continuing with this latest snow dump right before the school holidays.
“Everyone was beaming ear-to-ear today as they skied knee-deep powder,” he said. “Awesome snow falling with little winds has created near-on perfect conditions at Mt Hutt for the school holidays.”
Mr Wilson said they had lined up some fantastic holiday programmes catering for novice to advanced skiers aged from six to 17 years old and boarders aged from eight to 17 years. The Skiwiland Early Learning Centre will also be open catering for children aged two to five years.
“Participants will have lots of fun in the snow while building confidence and improving skills,” he said.
“We’ve got excellent conditions up here and we’re encouraging families to come and make the most of it over the next couple of weeks.”
