On Thursday, April 6 three members of the Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol sadly fell to their deaths into a geothermal vent that they were working to fence off. On May 21, the world famous Viper Room on the Sunset Strip will host a special benefit for the Patrollers Fund aiding the families of Charles Walter Rosenthal, James J. Juarez and John Scott McAndrews.
The benefit—officially sanctioned the Mammoth Mountain Patrollers Fund—is being organized by the Viper Room’s General Manager Mike Wilson. An avid skier, Wilson spent many days on the mountain these three men worked so hard to keep safe. “Ski patrol historically is all about glory. They keep the mountain safe for us everyday and we don’t think much about it,” says Wilson. “When this tragedy occurred we were all stunned and it gave us a huge reality check. This is my small way of paying them back”
Scheduled to perform are Golden State, The Human Value and Lo Mass Republic. There will also be a silent auction of sports gear including autographed Dodger baseballs and snowboards. All door proceeds and 10% of the bar will go to the Patrollers Fund. Sponsors for the evening include Smith Sports glasses, Mammoth-snowman.com, Mammoth Mountain, Teton Gravity Research, Volcom, BC Ethic, The Craig Feruson Show and the 118 Board Shop.
Tickets for the Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol Benefit go on sale this Friday at 10:00 am through the Viper Room website (
viperroom.com) or box office located at 8852 W. Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood. 21+. $20 suggested donation. Doors open at 7:30 pm.
