Zumiez 100k
words by Gabe Taylor
The yearly trip to the Zumiez 100K event took place last week. It’s been at Keystone the last few years and it works out pretty good, they have a good park and a big conference center for the party. Highlights for me were riding with Mitch, Blaise, JP and Tim. That’s been our crew the last few years and we always take in some tasty items. I think the theme of this years’ event was TV shows from the 80’s or 70’s or something. All the shop kids were dressed up in that kind of garb and Poncherella and one of the guys from the Brady Bunch were there. I managed to get photos with both. They didn’t seem that psyched though. Blaise seemed to think that the guy from the Brady Bunch, I think its Greg Brady, the oldest one, was in porn. If anyone has any info regarding that, leave a comment, it’d make for more interesting stories. I also met with the lead singer from Modest Mouse, one of my favorite bands and a down to earth guy.
Our film crews have been having a hard time finding any powder. There has been some dumping taking place in Montana, Washington and a bit in Utah but it’s been accompanied by the worst avalanche conditions ever, literally, some of the worst in history. In-bounds deaths, huge parties getting swamped, story after story was coming in on the avalanche sites. Sometimes you can find really good stuff out of harms way and be smart and still get work done. Other times it just seems better to stay out of the way and not have to make those life and death decisions. Sure, it comes with the job and I am going to live my life, but there are certain signs that make me extremely uneasy, and this early winter season has been full of em. Check out Avalanche.org for links to your local avalanche sites. Until it gets to be go time out there we’ll be working on the upcoming Mammoth movie.
