Maybe you do not know who Spencer Link is yet. Maybe you have seen him ripping around Mountain High and wondered "Who is that shredding so hard?" Spencer is a Mountain High local with some lofty goals, namely to never work at a traditional day job. With some impressive results; Second at a Mt High Triple Air, 1st at a PB&RJ, 3rd at the Copper Mountain Chevy Revolution Tour and more, Spencer is on his way to living his goal of doing what he loves, snowboarding, for a living. The thing that stood out most about Spencer while cruising around Mt High was his sense of style. We are not talking about tight pants but the way he throws down his tricks, they are pleasing to look at. Style mixed with ability could mean big things and hopefully we will be seeing more of Spencer in the future.

Spencer has been listening to his Dad's old music; AC/DC, ZZ Top and so forth. Spencer must also be peeping his dad's old skateboard mags too; where else would he learn Andrechts like this?
Age: 18 Hometown: Corona, CA Sponsors: Mt High, Active, DC, Signal Snowboards, Flux bindings, Von Zipper
SR: Are you Am or Pro? SL: Kinda in between
SR: So how do you get motivated to snowboard so well growing up and living in sunny and hot Corona, CA? SL: It was my parents pretty much! We did this on the weekends and then one year I decided and told my Dad that I wanted to snowboard for the rest of my life so now I am up here everyday pretty much, just riding and having fun
SR: How many years ago was that, when you decided you just wanted to snowboard? SL: Probably like four or five years ago
SR: So you were like fourteen or so, how did school fit into that program? SL: That was the toughest part! I went to school until the ninth grade and we had independent study from my teachers but they didn't like that so my Mom researched home school and I ended up doing home school
SR: That allowed you to pursue snowboarding, travel, roll up to Mountain High to practice and not have to deal with classes? SL: Yea, exactly
SR: Could getting home schooled be bad later on if by chance you didn't snowboard for a living? SL: Uh, no, since I graduated high school I can still go to pretty much any college except for the top ones, I can still get a degree.
SR: Oh cool, you could go to a community college and transfer to any other college too, if you wanted right? SL: Yea
SR: So what you are saying is that kids should'nt go to school SL: (laughter) That's my opinion, but no stay in school
SR: Do your sponsors treat you well? SL: Yea
SR: Are you all flow SL: Some and some not, I just get whatever I want
SR: Salary? SL: No
SR: So that is where you are crossing the line between am and pro right now? SL: Yea hopefully that's coming someday
SR: Hey if you ride for DC you are already teammates with Devun Walsh SR: Growing up in So Cal, who influenced your riding? SL: When I went to Mammoth I would always see Matt Hammer riding, Danny Kass, Shaun White was major because we used to ride together when we were younger and then he just blew up, now he is probably half way across the world right now.
SR: Videos? SL: I like watching all the new style and stuff
SR: So far this winter what have you done? SL: Filmed a little bit, a few of the PB&RJ, photo shoots and stuff
SR: What is in the near future? SL: The Aspen open, The Killington VT Grand Prix, and The Triple Air here at Mountain High
SR: Are you going the Killington Grand Prix instead of Boreal because Killington has slopestyle? SL: Exactly, Mountain High does not really have the Superpipe so you can't really train and I like slopestyle a little more
SR: Now you are 18 and all do you think about moving out of your parents? SL: Yea, a little bit, once I make a little more money I will be able to move out
SR: What do you hope to get out of snowboarding? SL: To be honest, money. It would nice to not have to work a real job for a day in my life and live off snowboarding. It something I love and its fun to do
SR: Would you do it if you were not making money SL: I still would ride but not as much (because he would have to work)
SR: What kind of music? SL: I listen to it all pretty much in my I-pod; rap, classic rock
SR: Ok then, five bands? SL: Five bands, oooh that's tough...AC/DC, Earth Wind and Fire, TI, ZZ Top and Led Zeppelin
SR: So four old bands and one new one? SL: Yea, I like the old stuff, my Dad listens to it, my brother, listens to it so I started listening to it
SR: Do you feel like snowboarding has been a good choice so far instead of you know, going to college, working at McDonalds, whatever? SL: It seems like it, all my friends say I am the luckiest kid right now
SR: They have shitty boring jobs? SL: Actually a lot of them don't even have jobs because they can't get any right now. It seems to be working out ok
SR: What tricks do you need to work on? SL: Backside rodeos, nines and tens
SR: Preferred terrain SL: Park and powder, pipe when I get a chance
SR: Any thanks? SL: Family, friends, sponsors; those that support me
Spencer moves forward with this frontside air while playing homage to the style masters of the past
With a few podiums and his belt at the Triple Air and Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam, Spencer ads another notch to his resume by winning the PB&RJ at Mountain High recently
The whole adage spin to win should be thrown out the window after all what good is a 1080 if it is so ugly and with bad? Spencer spins this stalefish with style

getting nosey
